The radio show was co-hosted by Janeane Garofalo & Sam Seder.

The show first appeared during early stages

Janeane Garofalo left the show in mid-summer 2006.

Since then, Sam Seder kept the show alive
in a variety of formats including:

After 4 plus years, this Sunday's Seder on Sundays very well may be my last regular appearance on the Air America Radio schedule. I've been told that I am one of those being considered for the 3-6pm slot but,frankly, particularly in this economy, I'd advise you not to place a bet on it.

Anyway,...I will remain and am very appreciative to AAR for letting me continue as the online editor for AirAmerica.com. We are building an important online component to progressive talk.

That said, I am confident this will not be the last opportunity for you to hear/watch me on political talk.

I am proud of my work over the past four years. I started out as a pretty bad broadcaster, but think I 've certainly become mediocre! Whether on the Majority Report, The Sam Seder Show or Seder On Sundays, my ratings have always been an improvement of the show that I have replaced, or better than those that have replaced mine.

Some moments I am particularly proud of..

On the Majority Report, we gave now Senator Jim Webb his first national exposure when he was still a primary candidate, during our Fighting Dem series we did with DailyKos.

I gave Ned Lamont his first national exposure before he declared for Senate in CT, and he ultimately first "unofficially" declared his run with me on a Friday when I was filling in for Randi.

The time I got the right wing caller Dewey to cop to having some "feminization issues".

My long talks with the disputed Senator of Florida, Katherine Harris.

Just last month in the 3-6p slot, in interviewing Phillipe Sands, author of "Torture Team," I played some exclusive audio of John McCain for him which he then went on to cite in Congressional testimony.

I've had a great opportunity to interview folks like Eddie Vedder to Ricky Gervais to Desmond Tutu to Gore Vidal to Howard Zinn to Sen. Russ Feingold to Robert Altman to Fran Liebowitz, Triumph, Lawrence Lessigand on and on and on (and of course, Peaches).

Geek Alert...Believe it or not, some of my biggest thrills were having the opportunity to meet bloggers I had read before starting doing radio--

It was and remains a real honor to have been part of launching Air America and institutionalizing commercial Left Talk Radio.

Finally, thank you folks for the tremendous support you have shown me through the years. I have an unfortunate habit of being outspoken about things that don't behoove me professionally, and I suspect I would have been gone long ago without you folks watching my back.

How Did the Rich Outsmart the Intellectuals?

“It is the knowledge of the power of the legal structure of the corporation
that really gives the rich a vast advantage
over the poor and the middle class.

Having two fathers teaching me, one a socialist and the other a capitalist,
I quickly began to realize that the philosophy of the capitalist
made more financial sense to me.

It seemed to me that the socialists ultimately penalized themselves,
due to their lack of financial education.
No matter what the “Take from the rich” crowd came up with,
the rich always found a way to outsmart them.

That is how taxes were eventually levied on the middle class.
The rich outsmarted the intellectuals,
solely because they understood the power of money,
a subject not taught in schools.

How did the rich outsmart the intellectuals?

Once the “Take from the rich” tax was passed,
cash started flowing into government coffers.

Initially, people were happy.
Money was handed out to government workers and the rich.
It went to government workers in the form of jobs and pensions.
It went to the rich via their factories receiving government contracts.

The government became a large pool of money,
but the problem was the fiscal management of that money.
There really is no recirculation.

In other words, the government policy,
if you were a government bureaucrat,
was to avoid having excess money.

If you failed to spend your allotted funding,
you risked losing it in the next budget.
You would certainly not be recognized for being efficient.

Business people, on the other hand,
are rewarded for having excess money
and are recognized for their efficiency.

As this cycle of growing government spending continued,
the demand for money increased,
and the “Tax the rich” ideas were now being adjusted
to include lower-income levels,
down to the very people who voted it in,
the poor and the middle class.

True capitalists used their financial knowledge to simply find a way to escape.
They headed back to the protection of a corporation.

A corporation protects the rich.
But what many people who have never formed a corporation do not know is that
a corporation is not really a thing.

A corporation is merely a file folder with some legal document in it,
sitting in some attorney’s office registered with a state government agency.
It’s not a big building with the name of the corporation on it.
It’s not a factory or a group of people.

A corporation is merely a legal document
that creates a legal body without a soul.

The wealth of the rich was once again protected.

Once again, the use of corporations became popular
---once the permanent income laws were passed---
because the income-tax rate of the corporation
was less than the individual income-tax rates.

In addition, as described earlier,
certain expenses could be paid with pre-tax dollars
within the corporation.

This war between the haves and have-nots
has been going on for hundreds of years.

It is the “Take from the rich” crowd versus the rich.

The battle is waged whenever and wherever laws are made.
The battle will go on forever.

The problem is, the people who lose are the uninformed.
The ones who get up every day and diligently go to work and pay taxes.

If they only understood the way the rich play the game,
they could play it too.

Then, they would be on their way to their own financial independence.

This is why I cringe every time I hear a parent advise their children
to go to school so they can find a safe, secure job.

An employee with a safe, secure job,
without financial aptitude,
has no escape.

Average Americans today work five to six months for the government
before they make enough to cover their taxes.
In my opinion, that is a long time.

The harder you work, the more you pay the government.
That is why I believe that the idea of “Take from the rich” backfired
on the very people who voted it in.

Every time people try to punish the rich,
the rich don’t simply comply, they react.
They have the money, power and intent to change things.

They do not just sit there and voluntarily pay more taxes.
They search for ways to minimize their tax burden.
They hire smart attorneys and accountants,
and persuade politicians to change laws or create legal loopholes.

They have the resources to effect change.”

Do civilizations of advanced human beings exist

A group of researchers working at the Human Genome Project indicate that they made an astonishing scientific discovery: They believe so-called 97% non-coding sequences in human DNA is no less than genetic code of extraterrestrial life forms.

The non-coding sequences are common to all living organisms on Earth, from moulds to fish to humans. In human DNA, they constitute larger part of the total genome, says Prof. Sam Chang, the group leader. Non-coding sequences, originally known as "junk DNA", were discovered years ago, and their function remained a mystery. The overwhelming majority of Human DNA is "Off-world" in origin. The apparent "extraterrestrial junk genes" merely "enjoy the ride" with hard working active genes, passed from generation to generation.

After comprehensive analysis with the assistance of other scientists, computer programmers, mathematicians, and other learned scholars, Professor Chang had wondered if the apparently "junk Human DNA" was created by some kind of "extraterrestrial programmer". The alien chunks within Human DNA, Professor Chang further observes, "have its own veins, arteries, and its own immune system that vigorously resists all our anti-cancer drugs."

Professor Chang further stipulates that "Our hypothesis is that a higher extraterrestrial life form was engaged in creating new life and planting it on various planets. Earth is just one of them. Perhaps, after programming, our creators grow us the same way we grow bacteria in Petri dishes. We can't know their motives - whether it was a scientific experiment, or a way of preparing new planets for colonization, or is it long time ongoing business of seedling life in the universe."

Professor Chang further indicates that "If we think about it in our human terms, the apparent "extraterrestrial programmers" were most probably working on "one big code" consisting of several projects, and the projects should have produced various life forms for various planets. They have been also trying various solutions. They wrote "the big code", executed it, did not like some function, changed them or added new one, executed again, made more improvements, tried again and again."

Professor Chang's team of researchers furthermore concludes that, "The apparent "extraterrestrial programmers" may have been ordered to cut all their idealistic plans for the future when they concentrated on the "Earth project" to meet the pressing deadline. Very likely in an apparent rush, the "extraterrestrial programmers" may have cut down drastically on big code and delivered basic program intended for Earth."

Professor Chang is only one of many scientists and other researchers who have discovered extraterrestrial origins to Humanity.

Human Genome Project Coordinators find absolute proof of Extraterrestrial contact with 'Earth humans' via DNA evidence.

Professor Chang and his research colleagues show that apparent "extraterrestrial programming" gaps in DNA sequencing precipitated by a hypothesized rush to create human life on Earth presented humankind with illogical growth of mass of cells we know as cancer."

Professor Chang further indicates that "What we see in our DNA is a program consisting of two versions, a big code and basic code." Mr. Chang then affirms that the "First fact is, the complete 'program' was positively not written on Earth; that is now a verified fact. The second fact is, that genes by themselves are not enough to explain evolution; there must be something more in 'the game'."

"Soon or later", Professor Chang says "we have to come to grips with the unbelievable notion that every life on Earth carries genetic code for his extraterrestrial cousin

The Troublesome Paradox of "The Secret"

I've had numerous emails asking me to comment on The Secret, the latest and massively popular New Age offering (available as a best-selling book and a DVD movie) on how consciousness allegedly can be used to attract health, love, and prosperity.

First off, one has to hand it to Rhonda Byrne and the crew at Prime Time Productions, who put together this collection of New Age wisdom on the subject, for their keen sense of what would appeal to a mass audience. The packaging is unquestionably first-rate.

Even a cursory reading of the book, however, reveals that it offers no secret at all, but only a reheated collection of the same instruction that's been available in the New Age literature since the 70s on a cultural scale, and since the 1800s and early 1900s somewhat less visibly in the work of New Thought writers such as Phineas Quimby, Emma Curtis Hopkins, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, Ernest Holmes, Florence Scovel Shinn, Emmett Fox, and others.

The essence of this teaching, to which Field training takes exception, is that one can, through visualizing or using affirmations or prayer or otherwise embodying a consciousness of fulfillment, create corresponding conditions in the world.

Note that Field training does not deny that the outer world corresponds to the inner, but points out that one cannot use this "Law of Correspondence" by setting out to use it. There is an element of paradox built into the principle that Field training regards as central, and which the various New Age offerings on the subject, including The Secret, miss.

This paradoxical element becomes obvious once it's stated, but it is nearly invisible until then: If our belief creates reality, and we seek to create, say, prosperity, then it is unavoidable that we must already be believing in a lack of prosperity (else why would we set out to try to create it?) and this belief casts the vote of our faith, as it were, mobilizing the Law of Correspondence against our desire.

It should be apparent that any attempt to use consciousness to solve a problem presupposes believing in the problem. Therein lies the paradox.

The idea that we can create conditions through consciousness techniques is nearly irresistible to anyone who has suspected that our inner life and our outer life are mysteriously commingled, but those who have made the experiment have learned quickly and sometimes the hard way that desire alone is not creative, and that visualizations and affirmations fail as a rule to have any creative effect on the world, which seems to roll on indifferent to our fantasies.

We can want something with every atom of our being, we can visualize and affirm it till the cows come home, and still find the universe unresponsive.

Of course, writing a book that tells us otherwise, that fosters and perpetuates the popular misconception that we can have, say, prosperity at the same time that we're believing in its absence and consequently the need to create it—writing such a book may well fulfill the author's expectation of prosperity, because there will always be a huge market for the idea that we can have what we want simply by wanting it, that "wishing will make it so," but in such cases, the authors have made use of something like a pyramid scheme.

As long as these writers can keep "selling" the idea, prosperity follows surely enough for them, but the tab ultimately is passed to those at the bottom of the pyramid who run out of customers, and are left wondering why this seems to work for others while they can't get results.

I don't say that the authors of these books are doing this intentionally. My guess is that they got excited about an idea and mean well, but this is the effect nonetheless.

The fallback position for the New Age's mistaken approach to conscious creating has been essentially the same as the fundamentalist's, who infers from the failure of prayer that we must not have had enough faith.

So, the New Age practitioner may wonder or even worry what he "did wrong" when the universe fails to deliver the goods.

It doesn't occur to him that the whole model is wrong, that the Law of Correspondence (also called Law of Assumption, Law of Attraction, Law of Creation, Law of Mental Equivalents, etc.) is elegant and unfailing but also in this sense ruthlessly thorough and efficient, and that he overlooked something essential, viz., that what we get in life corresponds not to what we want but to who we are.

The person who believes he lacks prosperity sufficiently to be trying to create prosperity uses the law perfectly, and ends up with more lack, though this was not his aim.

Here, then is the paradox: We cannot use the Law of Creation to create anything. We can, however, assume the identity we desire for its own sake, that is, solely for the sake of the inner fulfillment.

Paradox requires that practice stop there. Anyone who could practice this far and no further would find the Law delightfully surprising him, and at that point indeed would have discovered a great secret.

A few weeks ago, I received an angry email from someone who had visited the Field Center site, looked at our "how we're different" chart, and accused me of saying that other models "suck" as he put it.

Most of what he found upsetting, I never said and wouldn't. But even responding charitably, I don't see anything wrong with stating that one approach is better, more revealing, more thorough, or more useful if it really is. And we don't just allege this; we explain why.

Furthermore, we don't claim that Field training is the model. It's a model, certainly not for everyone. That said, nearly every student who has come to Field training came from some New Age approach that, in the end, had not "worked."

What Field training gave these students was an entirely different standard for what counts as "working" when it comes to deliberately taking on the great adventure of living consciously, complete with its creative implications.

It taught them that, as we say endlessly, "the aim of practice is alignment, not manifestation." It taught them to recognize, appreciate, enjoy, and work with the paradox of consciousness-as-cause.

And it freed them from the pervasive and obviously still very popular misunderstanding that we can have anything in the world that we haven't earned by right of identity.

Instead, through their willingness to look beyond the popular model, they saw firsthand that identity is the generative force of creation, that what we want also wants something of us, that we cannot have anything we believe we lack, and that we cannot make an end run around these living principles through pretending, visualizing, repeating affirmations, or any other strategy.

"The Secret" - Part 2

Last week, on 25 June, the Associated Press ran this story:

"The Secret: Big Sales, Loud Criticism.

Here's an excerpt: "While The Secret has become a pop culture phenomenon, it also has drawn critics who are not quiet about labeling the movement a fad, embarrassingly materialistic or the latest example of an American propensity of wanting something for nothing.

Some medical professionals suggest it could even lead to a blame-the-victim mentality and actually be dangerous to those suffering from serious illness or mental disorders.

As with many publishing hits, the 'Oprah Effect' played a role.

Winfrey devoted two shows in February to The Secret, and Larry King and Ellen DeGeneres also featured it on their shows.

It was spoofed on Saturday Night Live when a man portraying a refugee in the Darfur region of Sudan was blamed for having negative thoughts.

However, the fear that The Secret will lead to a blame-the-victim mentality is a serious claim of critics.

For example, the book dismisses conditions such as a genetic predisposition to being overweight or a slow thyroid as 'disguises for thinking "fat thoughts."' And during times in which massive number of lives were lost, the book says, the 'frequency of their thoughts matched the frequency of the event.'

So, according to The Secret, the victims of the Holocaust were responsible for their extermination, the rape victim is asking for it, and the people in Darfur are being murdered because of negative thinking.

You see, this is a prime example of the sort of oversimplifications and confusions typical of the New Age approach to consciousness-as-cause, and one that Field training regards as particularly egregious and shameless.

Our response when asked how we explain the Holocaust and other calamitous or tragic events is that we don't. We recognize that decency places a limit on how far theory can or should be willing to go, and we don't speculate about the experiences of people who are not present to take part in the conversation and present their experience firsthand.

We don't preserve our theoretical model at their expense.

It is true that many who have come through Field training who endured and survived such experiences found that they were not beyond the reach of Field practice to revise and redeem, and that the principles applied even in such severe cases, but this was their call to make, not ours, and this is perhaps why our program doesn't appear either on Oprah or Saturday Night Live.

The great mistake of The Secret and the many models, some of them far more rigorous and thoughtful, is the failure to recognize and incorporate paradox and what we call the "dialectic" into its principles and practices.

As stated in Part 1 of this piece, believing in a problem sufficiently to set about "consciously creating" its solution already places one in a position of checkmate. The game is over, because belief, not willful intent, not visualizing, not prayer, not affirmations, not wishing or hoping or knowing "the secret" is what creates.

This has a far-reaching implication, namely that we cannot use our creative consciousness to create conditions.

We can, however, believe in the desired conditions for their own sake, or as we say, for the sake of alignment rather than manifestation.

This is where practice must stop.

This is the oasis in a desert of contradiction to which we banish our practice the moment we allow it to be strategic.

And this indeed appears to be something of a secret.

At least the New Age doesn't seem to know about it.

This essential element of paradox—this is one of the first things we give our students, and it changes their view of who they are, of what it means to be conscious and creative, and as a result, their lives in many ways, all for the better.

There is no "secret" that will bring us to anything that we do not earn through the willingness to live up to the version of self to which that thing corresponds, and moreover, to live up to it for its own sake.

Conscious creating, it turns out, is an act of love, an act of giving the self to the ideal rather than trying to get things from the world.

We cannot escape the assumptions of our own consciousness.

When the creative moment is entered into lovingly rather than for some desired effect, then and only then are we operating at the level of cause. This means that it isn't enough for us to visualize and such.

We have to become the thing we want, until all experience of lack has vanished in the joy of our having come home to our ideal.

Then, as far as we're concerned, the world can come along or not.

And the one who practices this way will discover a great secret indeed.

There Will Always Be Those Who Thrive

There are always those who thrive when masses are dying of sickness. There are always those who thrive economically when economic decline seems to be the order of your nation. There are always those who are clear-minded, even in environments of confusion. You do not need everyone, you do not need anyone, to align with your desire—only you need to align with your desire.

...Simply put: you’ve got to figure out how to feel good, no matter what. You’ve got to stop saying, "I feel good, mostly, but under these conditions; and that condition needs to change before I can feel better." Because now you are giving all of your power away to others who are making decisions about their lives, which have nothing to do with your lives.

Can I not be affected by them?

So, you say, "Well, how can I separate what they’re doing? It feels like what they’re doing has something to do with my life. It feels really connected to me. How can you say that it is not connected?" And we say, it is only connected because you are making it connected.

So then you say, "So, what do I do? I put blinders on? I hide myself? How can I drive down the street without being aware of different people having different opinions about whatever is in the news today? How do I keep from bumping up against things that my emotional Guidance System responds to? How do I keep from feeling outrage or concern or blame, or guilt? How do I live in this world and not respond to what’s going on?" And we say, we would not want you to live in a world where you are not responding to what’s going on. All we are suggesting is that you practice who you are and how you feel, so much, that your response to what they are doing doesn’t become more of who you are, than your response to what you are desiring. What we are suggesting is, that you think so much about who you are, and what you are doing—that what others are doing that feels like it is happening in relationship to you—is a miniscule part of the picture of that which is You.

is a very watered down version of manifesting,
which they are putting out to try to counteract people who are waking up to their abilities...

Cosmic Consciousness: The Ultimate Goal

Spirit has been progressively evolving through the atomic, mineral,
plant, and animal phases, and finally to humankind.

It appears that it still has one more phase of development
before it finally merges back into itself, the All.

This sixth phase is termed the Cosmic or Divine phase of creation.

… Cosmically conscious men and women
were living in a state of awareness far advanced
over those of the ordinary people we deal with
in our everyday existence, those who are locked into the human phase
and cannot conceive of anything beyond the material world.

Cosmic consciousness means
the state of awareness or knowledge you have
when you become consciously aware
of the organization of the universe
and of your oneness with it.

Furthermore, you will be able to translate this knowledge
into a living experience.

There are three forms, or levels, of consciousness: simple, self, and cosmic;
and we can symbolically place everything that exists on this continuum.

The first section represents the lowest forms of life
with just simple consciousness
---from inorganic matter to the least evolved human being,
primitive man.

The second portion begins with primitive man
and ends with the highest type of individual,
such as Albert Schweitzer, Buddha, or Socrates.

The third portion represents the lowest type of cosmic consciousness
on up to the fully developed divine awareness
typifying the perfect human being.

Everyone is situated on this scale.

… Down through the ages there have been a number of individuals
who have developed this power of transcendent realization.

Some of them are chronicled in an extremely interesting 1901 book,
Dr. Maurice Bucke’s Cosmic Consciousness.

It provides an extensive history of the Illuminati
before the twentieth century. …

He explores the lives of people such as Spinoza, Emerson,
Walt Whitman, Dante, Buddha, and Christ. …

Dr Bucke writes:

“…Along with the conciousness of the cosmos
there occurs an intellectual enlightenment
or illumination
which alone would place the individual
on a new plane of existence
---would make him almost a member
of a new species. …”

… Dr. Thurman Fleet, founder of Concept-Therapy, states:

“,,,There are many other masters or illuminated souls
engaged in other work, both on this plane,
and on many other planes of existence,
who are interested in helping to advance
the consciousness of the world.”

To move into the Divine or Cosmic Phase,
one must develop and learn to rely on intuition.
… The bargain intuition drives is that it will serve you,
if you serve it.

… We must become increasingly aware of the inner world
and constantly tune our consciousness toward it.
What we are seeking is habitual, spiritual consciousness:
a constant awareness of our oneness with all of life.

Dr Bucke states:

“The immediate future of our race is indescribably hopeful.

The germ of cosmic consciousness
has been planted in many individuals;
and as this germ grows, more and more people
will come into an understanding of this higher state
until finally the majority of the race will have
some degree of cosmic knowledge.

… Men and women will know that God is within them;
that the world is ruled by immutable laws,
and by knowing the laws they will know that it
is beneficial to obey them.

… Each day lived will be a day dedicated to the Divine;
… knowing that the entire universe with all its good
exists for, and belongs to it, forever.

Each person will come to know that
violation of spiritual laws does not pay.

… Peace and happiness will be abundant everywhere.”

Cosmic consciousness comes to the person who learns,
and lives by, the higher spiritual principles that govern life.

… You must become one with the cosmic by obeying the laws involved.

You may have a very great desire to attain cosmic consciousness,
but … the will must be trained over and over again until,
by a natural habit, it will do the bidding of the higher self.

… When a person is a disciple of the higher path,
he or she must be resolute about the quest.

... Until the will has been sufficiently trained and developed,
all progress is rendered utterly impossible.

… When people seek enlightenment with single-mindedness,
they are sure to get it.

… Spirit is limited by the medium through which it expresses itself

… Its expression through our medium depends upon
the condition of that medium.

… Through constantly learning to contact our inner self,
we can get our life in tune
with the Great Conductor of the Universe,
thereby becoming a perfect expression of Spirit Within.

This is our task as human beings.

In one Concept-Therapy texts, Dr. Fleet states that:

“There seems to come a time for all of us when
… our attention reverts to the world within.

Trying to figure out a solution to the problems of life,
we become seekers after truth.
… If we persist in our journey,
we finally become aware
of the orderly arrangement of the universe.

We become cognizant of a great, all-pervading Power
which rules everything.

… No longer does the material world absorb all our attention.
Something new has come into our lives.
… We then enter the path leading to cosmic consciousness.

` New life seems to come: our vitality is rejuvenated;
we eagerly absorb all that we can.

We study, we meditate,
and in our studying and meditation we find,
here and there, a bit of truth.

… At long last one great truth dawns upon us:
the world and everything in it
is governed and operates by laws
---great cosmological principles.

… We will find that which we have long sought,
the truth of the cosmic organization.

We take a firm hold on
the Eternal Principles of Natural law:
… an awareness of the One.”

This, then, is our goal,
the goal toward which we are all striving,
whether or not we are aware of it.

Spiritual men and women are the saviors of the world,
and the spiritual person is also the creative one.

… That individual’s life and thought proceed
from the spiritual realm
, thus bringing a creative life into the world
that is not dictated by the lives of others;
it is an original creation.

The truly spiritual person always changes the world in some way.
… (Plato, Kant, Schweitzer, Spinoza, … Walt Whitman)

It is the experience of the Infinite that enable us
to break through the isolation, anxiety, and estrangement
of self-conscious existence.

Spirit is all-pervasive in the universe,
and we are totally dependent upon this consciousness
for our existence.

In the certainty of the knowledge
of the omnipresent Spirit,
we can achieve inner peace.

… The conscious awareness that
everything and everyone is its existence
means that we are in a holy place
even when we are in the most worldly place;
for everything is rooted in the Divine Life.

… When you fully understand the real meaning
that you are a radiant expression
of the Divine Spirit in manifestation,
your behavior is always governed
by that one central concept.

… To what have you dedicated your life, your thoughts and actions?

That is your true religion.

… That person’s entire existential relationship to life
will be motivated, governed, and directed
by his inner, existential relationship to the Divine;
thus, it would be impossible to be unfaithful
to that illuminated understanding. ...

… It will not be an easy job,
but a lifelong struggle
requiring endless vigilance and rigorous self-discipline
for we are indeed giving up a part of ourselves
---our egotism.

… We must be prepared to analyze our emotional make-up
and systematically eliminate all of our negative, destructive traits.

… There is a probationary period we must go through
before achieving enlightenment
and being led into the full illumination.

… It evolves through a person by a natural process
as one evolves his or her own consciousness
through studying, meditation, and living life.

Once we make the conscious decision
to align ourselves with the spiritual world,
persistently endeavoring to overcome our lower nature,
we seem to receive help from some unseen force.

… We can feel safe in believing that help will come to us
through one avenue or another.

… If we persist in our determination,
in our single-mindedness,
insight and strength will come to us
in various ways and from various sources.

… In a sublime sense,
when we study the works of great thinkers
who have crossed the threshold before us,
our insight is awakened through appreciating theirs;
and we may discover inner realms they long ago explored.

…. Very few people have the necessary determination
to keep on with the struggle until they discover
the light on the path.

Usually an aspirant for the higher consciousness
has been brought to it by suffering much
from the superficialities of the world.

… Suffering makes her long for a higher life,
and her inner cry is heard echoing throughout the universe!.

She is then led here and there
to the knowledge that will enable her
to find the higher path.

… She begins to attract assistance to herself.
Through the medium of the laws of resonance and vibration,
she draws to herself kindred souls,
from this plane and others,
who enrich her mentally and spiritually. …

…. He knows intuitively that clinging to the lower self
will mean that the path will be beset with difficulties
and repeated pains, sorrows, and disappointments.

At times, while fighting the inner battle,
he secures brief glimpses of the beauty
of the spiritual realm;
… realizes that he can no longer harm others
because all life is One.

… Simultaneously, this person recognizes
that helping another
also means helping himself,
and the truth of “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
becomes a reality in his life.

Dr. Fleet states:

“…Having entered the region of reality,
you will accomplish everything without striving,
and all problems will easily be faced and handled by you.

You will concern yourself not with changing events,
but with the unchanging principle behind all things.

… You will enter into possession of the knowledge of higher worlds. …”

An all-embracing affirmation I particularly like is:
“I am becoming aware of my oneness with the Infinite.”

… You might try saying this affirmation as you fall asleep each night:
you’ll be surprised at the difference it will make in your life! …

… Eventually, some day, in another dimension of awareness,
we shall achieve the final destiny of the evolution of consciousness,
complete unity of Spirit with itself,
the merging of our self-consciousness back into the One,
but with greater understanding and enlightenment.

As Dr. Fleet states:

“… When we realize the profound simplicity of spiritual consciousness,
and have an unbiased, tranquil, blessed state of mind,
we will know that whatever happens to us is for our own good.

We will be content, and no longer the servant of the self,
but the servant of the Divine.

We will have nothing to defend, nothing to conceal,
nothing to attack, and no interests to guard,
therefore, we will be at peace.”

To become one with the Infinite is the goal of man,
and is a far greater possession
than anything else the world has to offer.

The man or woman who attains it will know the secret of immortality.
